Clive Stafford Smith, a human rights lawyer, is the founder and legal director of the charity Reprieve (http://www.reprieve.org.uk). He has worked on death penalty cases in the United States, and more recently has represented many of the Guantánamo Bay prisoners. He is the author of Bad Men: Guantanamo Bay and the Secret Prisons (Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 2007), and writes a monthly column for New Statesman. His documentary is Is Torture a Good Idea?.
