A recent article by Noam Chomsky What If Iran Had Invaded Mexico is worth reading. There were elements in this latest article that seemed to me to be from Wonderland which I’ll deal with later on.
He states that the "debate over Iranian interference in Iraq proceeds without ridicule on the assumption that the United States owns the world". Of course the statement is true and the assumption false because no nation can "own the world." But any nation who has ever held the most powerful position of dominance over other nations and peoples whether it was the Roman Empire, the British Empire or now the American Empire will act as if it owns the world until its power is taken away by another power which then proceeds as if it owns the world. The obnoxiousness, arrogance and pettiness of the dominant world power is a historical reality.
It provides some kind of grim entertainment to dwell on America’s arrogance as it strides the world acting the dominant power. One can exert all the force of contempt upon it. It is even more desirable to think that at some point somewhere in time the arrogance will be transferred to some other nation. Until then, we are stuck with the arrogant American Empire which was the ultimate victor in the last war fought in the White Empire. We won, sharing the spoils with Stalin who gobbled up over a third of Europe only for Russia to lose it during the demise of its little empire in the 1990’s leaving us the sole dominant power. The rest of the White Empire lost the last world war. They are now vassals of the U.S.. The chief beneficiaries in the American victory was the Jewish establishment and its state of Israel and the syndicates of concessionaires which in its modern form includes the military industrial complex. However, we who live now are witnessing the same continuous war that has been going on since 1914 when Great Britain thought it "owned the world" even though by that time its Entente with France indicated it was losing world dominance, its "power" had to shared. Chomsky writes about hoping to avoid World War III. We have never stopped fighting World War I.
When Great Britain plotted and schemed to bring down its rival Germany starting around 1870, its main impulse for doing so was envy. It detested Germany which was becoming a strong commercial power interestingly without throwing all its money into the building of dreadnoughts and armaments as Great Britain was doing but rather building cargo and passenger ships. Great Britain wanted War, Germany wanted commerce. Although the main antagonists against Germany were France and Russia, Great Britain through secret agreements and alliances which it never revealed to its public dragged its people into then history’s greatest slaughter. The sphere of envy included the Middle East and North Africa. Germany was planning the building of a railroad to Baghdad among other ventures. All four countries were involved in wanting what the Middle East held including oil but not only oil, there was much else to be gained. Nevertheless, the same war with goals for the subjugation of the Middle East hasn’t changed, except of course that Germany was finally defeated in World War II eternally consigned to the blackmail of war guilt something it refused to acquiesce after the Treaty of Versailles.
The United States and its tag-along Great Britain who has borne the humiliation of no longer being the world’s number one is the secondary player in aiding and abetting the U.S. and the Jewish elites in its attempt to conquer the Middle East while it conducts the Sub-Plot to Total War, the War on Terror by terrorizing its own citizens through the terrorizing of its Muslim citizens. This serves the purpose of keeping its own citizens subjugated which is nothing new. The Britons’ total gullibility to war propaganda about the "barbaric" Germans in World War I during that absurdly unnecessary war exceeded even the Americans.
Chomsky suggests that there be "democracy promotion in Iran" as well as "democracy promotion" here at home as possible solutions to staving off another war by the Americans and their allies Israel and Britain. If that mercurial beast "the people" could just get the U.S. to adopt a national health-care system, recognize Kyoto, reduce carbon emissions, make friends with Cuba, stop embargoes on "weak" countries and get the U.S. to listen to the U.N. then maybe the U.S. would stop doing wars.
This is Wonderland. One result of War is that it kills all democracy at "home" or anywhere else. World War II served the purpose of killing the New Deal which was dying anyway but nevertheless killing it outright by forcing the public into war was infinitely more desirable then having the "democracy" witness the failure of it. This would have cost the Democrats votes. Take the country to war, save the Party. It was no different in Britain with its own domestic problems that it refused to confront however loud the clamor for reform while its own parties were as deeply involved in wanting to retain their party power.
The insane armament race began in 1897. For one hundred and ten years the method of dealing with democracies and the people who demand more of their government is to rob them by taxing them into paying for more armaments, more war. The welfare state is the warfare state. Nothing has changed except that there is no democracy remaining here let alone starting a program of "democracy promotion." The rulers are only intent to seize the weak countries they have desired to subjugate. War is driven by the political elites, the armament dealers, business profiteers and the media whose interests coincide. They make wars happen and they will continue to make them happen. The brief moment in 1968 when the elites were made nervous by an energized public is a lesson they only learned from. Nothing now remotely resembles our public in 1968.
Total War is currently centered on conquering the Middle East. It may not be immediately that the U.S. goes after Iran in an all-out shooting war. Although it is easier to continue a war rather than pause and start up another one that might have to be the case although one can see how that could be avoided just by keeping the war going in Iraq. We will see how badly the Democrats want to return to power. To win the Executive and carry both Houses they could only do so by the promise to their constituents that there will be no war in Iran. This will assure them victory because the public does not want another war. This was what Roosevelt told the people in 1932. Of course Roosevelt was a liar.
