Jimmy Carter exists in the same realm he has inhabited since his presidency. He is a member of the American ruling class which includes its various wings, the political elites, the military establishment that serve them, neo-cons, the zionist stooges and the so called Eastern capital sector. They are all on board for the expansion of American imperial reach and for the direct seizure of Middle Eastern oil and the fragmentation of the Middle Eastern countries, one by one including Iran.
Carter is an ardent friend of the Israeli state. In his recent book where he opposes what he calls the "potential apartheid state" he never mentions the Palestinians’ right to live on their own land or to own it. As his partner once and partner forever, Zbigniew Brzezinski explicated Carter’s book to Charlie Rose, Brzezinski and Carter are advocating a demilitarized Palestinian entity in the West Bank with all the major population centers annexed to Israel and with Nato as occupying soldiers. Nato will "handle" the Palestinians under their control, will "handle" the militants, the activists and the "restive Palestinian population."
While one writer pointed out that Carter is a murderer the observation is redundant. All American presidents have been murderers. We live in an Empire that is a murderous state. Should Carter have called upon the Zionist state of Israel to stop exterminating Palestinians, I may have noted that even a murderer can say something good or worthwhile. But he didn’t. Even those who criticize his past murderous regime give him too much credit. They forget he is an active member of the ruling class who all desire the same thing, permanent American dominance which includes the use of the Jewish apparatus to achieve it.
The fact that Carter has been criticized by the hysterical Jewish establishment is a mock battle, bickering among the elites. Carter has always been "on board" as his instructive secret presidential brief called Secret Plan PD18, calling for the use of operational strike forces to seize oil in the Middle East will show. It is available on the internet with a little searching.
While some on the "left" have experienced the excitement that comes from new discovery— with their realization that the AIPAC, the Zionist lobby and the Israeli state is a critical element in the strategies of this our late Empire their realization has caused them to make an easy and false assumption, that the Jewish elites have the capture of a ten trillion dollar imperial state in their own hands. The wings of the class that are aiding the Zionist apparatus do so as its sponsor, it has become indispensable in their plans for the seizure of the Middle Eastern states.
While James Petras recently endeavored to try to figure out who the ruling class was in America in his article "Who Rules America?" he described not who rules but who bickers among the various wings of the ruling sector as he expressed sympathy for Carter. While the financial aspects of the American system functions on the model of capitalism and various business sectors come and go or reorganize, a certain wing of the ruling class remains intact which he noted but failed to see that who remains intact as the financial sector changes are those who are the rulers. He made the common economic ideologue’s mistake of suggesting that capital is the motive for imperialism rather than a model for it. The imperialist patterns the acquisition of power on the accumulation of capital. The capitalist sees money as a means to more money. The imperialist sees every conquest as a way station to the next. Afghanistan leads to Iraq, Iraq to Iran. And Iran leads to?
Thus we see the same imperialists year after year, aligned. This includes men like Carter and his Brzezinski, Clinton and John Kerry (on board for the seizure of Iran) and the old hands, Bush Sr., George Schultz, James Baker, Lee Hamilton, Leon Panetta, Lawrence Eagleburger, Henry Kissinger, the man-who-will-not die and so on; and the newer hands, Dick Cheney’s daughter (next generation and with a little one on the way for the next), Michael Ledeen, Stephen Cambone, etc.. The ruling class does not change, it just has children. There are the occasional newcomers culled from the universities that groom them. Barack Obama springs to mind.
As the Iraq war holds the appearance of a failed war and makes them look bad, the political elites are scrambling to assign blame on other members of the ruling elites. We watch their various squabbles about tactics or strategy. In the case of the current regime, the presidential and congressional elections in ’08 are uppermost at the moment although the imperialists of both parties are wedded in the essential imperialist plan for the Middle East. Nevertheless, because the Republican party wants to remain in charge in ’08 we see the Bush administration feverishly committed to appeasing its constituencies: the corporations, the military, big oil and the evangelicals.
There was that famous quote of Eisenhower on an Internet posting on Counterpunch the other day. The one that lefties like so much. His warning about the growing military industrial complex, we all know it, what a drag it would be if it came about, that sort of thing. Eisenhower may have spoken such words now embraced by lefties upon departing his presidency but he presided over his own murderous regime, the overthrow of Mossadegh in Iran and installing the puppet Shah who was instrumental in seizing Iran’s oil reserves for the Americans.
The American ruling class has been aligned in its objectives of imperial dominance since before Eisenhower, although Eisenhower’s particular actions upon Iran were immense. From the time of his presidency there have always been aircraft carriers hanging around the coast of Iran. There have been over two hundred and fifteen military interventions for political objectives in the Middle East since Eisenhower’s 1953 event not even including the ravages upon the country of Iraq.
Of course the ruling class is promising to nuke Iran. One could ask when have they not promised it. They will do what they do and ordinary people will watch them do it. The Great Game ends as Kipling said, "when everyone is dead."
